Calm, considered spaces shaped by craft, light, and cultural memory.

Our Approach

Designing
spaces that
hold meaning

The H Collaborative is a design studio working across architecture, interiors, and concept environments. Founded in Kano and based in Abuja, our work blends cultural memory with a contemporary hand—guided by craft, light, and human experience.

Great design begins with listening—how you live, how you move, and what you want a space to support. We work with clarity and restraint, shaping projects through proportion, filtered light, and tactile materials.

Rooted in Kano and practised in Abuja, our approach brings heritage forward without turning it into a costume—creating contemporary spaces that feel grounded, warm, and quietly confident.

How We Work

Architect • Based in Abuja

The H Collaborative is led by Hauwa Zahra Mahmoud, an architect by training whose work is grounded in thoughtful design instincts and cultural heritage.

Hauwa is from Kano and based in Abuja. Known for her rigorous thinking with a rare artistic eye. Her work is guided by craft, proportion, and climate-aware strategies, shaping spaces that feel calm, warm, and human.

Outside the studio, her love for horses mirrors how she works: patient, attentive, and steady.

We regularly collaborate with structural and MEP engineers, landscape designers, fabricators, visualisers, and specialist contractors—selected to fit the project, not a fixed roster.

Our Values

What Guides Our Work

01

Craft & Material Honesty

We choose materials for how they feel and how they age—texture, tone, and detail that holds up over time.

02

Human Experience

We design for real life: movement, comfort, privacy, gathering, and quiet.

03

Clarity & Care

We work with restraint and precision—so the space feels effortless, even when the thinking is deep.

What We Do

Full-service Design,
Thoughtfully Delivered

01

Architecture & Space Planning

From concept to documentation, we shape layouts and forms that feel clear, calm, and functional—designed around how people actually live and move.

02

Interior Design

Materials, finishes, lighting, joinery, and furniture are developed as one cohesive story. We balance restraint with warmth, creating interiors that feel grounded and lived-in.

03

Design Co-ordination & Delivery Support

We collaborate closely with consultants, contractors, and makers to carry the design through. Clear documentation and responsive coordination keep intent intact as projects progress.

04

Consultation

For early-stage projects or focused support: space planning, material direction, and design strategy sessions—clear guidance, without committing to a full scope.

Our Space

Where Ideas
Take Shape

Based in Abuja, our studio is a working space for drawing, testing, and refining ideas—filled with material samples, models, and the documents that turn concepts into buildable reality.

We welcome in-person conversations whenever possible; it's often the fastest way to align on texture, scale, and how a space should feel.
